Son faces murder charge

Allegedly told officers he had killed his mother

Prosecutors on Tuesday filed a murder charge against a Fort Wayne man who allegedly told police he was possessed by demons and Adolf Hitler when he attacked his mother.

Jason A. Steiss, 34, was arrested after police were called Oct. 24 to the Stanford Avenue home of Joy Steiss. Her son told police he bit, punched and choked her, according to court documents.

Steiss told police he was possessed and asked to be killed, a probable cause affidavit said. He allegedly asked for the electric chair.

“I murdered my mother,” he said, the affidavit said. “I am a bad person. Kill me. I need to be put down so I don't hurt anyone else.”

He was charged Thursday with aggravated battery and domestic battery. Prosecutors filed the murder charge Tuesday.

Steiss' father told investigators his son told him on a video call minutes before police arrived at the home that he beat his mother.

“I hurt my mom, hurt her real bad, blood all over, please help,” Steiss said, according to court documents.

Steiss does not have a criminal record in Indiana, according to an online search of court records.

He is listed as a plaintiff in a civil case filed in Allen Circuit Court in 1987, but those records were destroyed in 2006.
