Ex-aide gets probation in solicitation

MATTHEW LEBLANC | The Journal Gazette

A former North Side High School special education assistant accused of seeking sex with a student will not spend time behind bars.

Devin H. Gilliam, 28, pleaded guilty in September to felony child solicitation, and a plea agreement called for a three-year suspended prison sentence. A judge agreed and handed down the sentence Friday.

Gilliam, who had been charged with child solicitation and dissemination of matter harmful to minors, will serve three years on probation. The dissemination charge was dismissed.

Police were called Aug. 16, 2018, to North Side, where a girl told them she received an inappropriate text message from Gilliam. She later told a forensic interviewer she received several messages from him, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Gilliam sent the girl, who has a disability, a photo of himself naked, described sex acts and “made several sexual comments to her,” the document alleged.

Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull also ordered him to undergo a psychological evaluation and not to contact the victim, court records show.
