Indiana University naming building for ex-President Brand

Associated Press

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University is honoring former school President Myles Brand by putting his name on a Bloomington campus building.

Current IU President Michael McRobbie says the naming of Myles Brand Hall recognizes Brand's role in the 1999 creation of what is now the School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering. The building being named for Brand has been known as Informatics East.

Brand was IU's president for eight years before becoming the NCAA's president in 2003. He held that position until his death in 2009 from cancer at the age of 67. He gained attention for the firing of longtime IU basketball coach Bob Knight in 2000.

Josh Brand tells The (Bloomington) Herald-Times that he appreciates the building honor so his father's name will always be part of IU.
