LAUREL – Four people died and two others were believed missing after floodwaters swept two vehicles off a southeastern Indiana road Friday, authorities said.
The vehicles were located after Franklin County 911 received a call from a witness who reported seeing headlights off a road near the town of Laurel and hearing calls for help, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said.
Responding authorities discovered a bridge over Sanes Creek had been partially washed away, the department said.
“At this time, responders have recovered four deceased victims and believe two individuals are still missing,” the department said.
A search was underway for the missing persons, it said.
The victims' identities were not immediately released.
Laurel is about 55 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
