A truck driver died Friday when his semi crossed U.S. 30 near Pierceton and crashed into a vacant business, the Kosciusko County FACT Team said today.

Police said officers and emergency workers responded at 12:23 p.m. to a report of the crash in the 7600 east block of U.S. 30, east of Indiana 13, the team said in a statement.

The driver, whose identity was not immediately disclosed by police, died at the scene. A small dog was located alive inside the semi's cab and was taken into safekeeping by the county's Animal Control, the statement said.

It said the driver was westbound on U.S. 30 when his semi crossed into the median, over the eastbound lanes and collided with the vacant business.

The crash remains under investigation. Pierceton, Warsaw/Wayne Township and Winona Lake firefighters, Pierceton and Indiana State police, the sheriff's department and Multi-Township EMS assisted at the scene.
