A Fort Wayne man was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center with internal injuries Friday after the semi he was driving drifted off Indiana 8 near Auburn, overcorrected and overturned onto its top, the DeKalb County sheriff's department said.

Police said Brian A. Parkison, 45, was driving west on Indiana 8 at County Road 41, east of Auburn, when he drifted off the right side of the roadway.

The semi traveled about 100 feet in a harvested soybean field, and Parkison attempted to re-enter Indiana 8 at a place where there was a 3-foot ditch bank, they said.

Police said the semi struck the ditch bank and overturned onto its top. Parkison, who was wearing a seat belt, was pinned inside and had to be extricated, they said.

Indiana 8 was closed at County Road 41, state police at Fort Wayne said. Auburn firefighters and DeKalb EMS also assisted.
