2 shot, 1 dead at restaurant

Dave Gong | The Journal Gazette

An altercation late Sunday at a restaurant on Fort Wayne's north side has left one man dead and another wounded.

About 9:38 p.m., Fort Wayne police responded to a report of a man shot in the parking lot of Texas Roadhouse, 710 W. Washington Center Road. Upon arrival, police found a man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were also noticed of another man suffering from gunshot wounds who was transported to a local hospital via a private vehicle. The man remains in critical condition.

Initial reports suggest a verbal argument took place inside the restaurant between two groups of men, said Chris Felton, city police public information. The argument continued after both groups left the restaurant, eventually turning into a physical fight, Felton said. At least one gunshot was fired, striking a man who was loaded into a vehicle by friends who planned to take him to the hospital. The other group walked away.

As the vehicle drove around the restaurant, the occupants again encountered the rival group. At that point, Felton said someone inside the vehicle fired a shot at the opposing group, striking the man who was later pronounced dead.

The occupants of the vehicle were being interviewed by police, Felton said. It is not yet known if any suspects or participants in the incident are still at large. Police are also currently unsure of the circumstances that led to the fight.

A short time later and a short distance away, another incident left a man, suffering from gunshot wounds, in critical condition.

About 9:58 p.m., city police responded to the 1900 block of River Run Trail. Officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was transported to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition early today.

Officers were unsure of the victim's identity and age, Felton said.

Initial information suggests that something led to a disturbance in the parking lot outside a residence on River Run Trail. Felton said that disturbance became physical and at least one gunshot was fired. Officers have found a group of people who may be involved and that group was being interviewed by police, Felton said, noting that it's still unclear what, if any involvement that group may have had.

It does not appear the two incidents are related, Felton said.

Anyone with information regarding either incident are encouraged to call the FWPD at 260-427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.
