Police seeking counterfeit bill suspect

The Journal Gazette

The Fort Wayne Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a man they say used counterfeit bills to purchase Indiana Lottery scratch-off tickets at an area gas station.

On Jan. 7, the suspect bought several lottery tickets in high dollar amounts at the Marathon gas station, 7440 St. Joe Rd., a police said.

The clerk realized that one of the $20 bills he had passed her was fake and told the suspect that. The suspect told the clerk the money had come from a dice game and he didn't know what she was talking about.

The store owner called police and the suspect fled, the statement said.

The employee gave the officer 10 $20 bills, nine of which had the same serial number.

The suspect is 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, in his early to mid-20's, and wore a red sweatshirt and gray shoes.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.
