Man rescued from vehicle that went through home, landed in pond

JIM CHAPMAN | The Journal Gazette

A man was in critical condition after he was pulled from a vehicle that had landed in a pond after crashing through a home in northern Allen County.

Authorities were called at 10 p.m. Wednesday to the 13000 block of Tonkel Road, north of Union Chapel Road.

A vehicle crashed into a house, went through the home and landed in the pond near the home, said Robert Boren, Huntertown Fire Department operations chief.

He said three Allen County Sheriff's Department officers dove into the pond, cut the man's seat belts and pulled him out of the water.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Boren said.

"This incident is a true testament of how this county works together," Boren said.

The Huntertown Fire Department and Northeast Fire and EMS were also called to the scene.
