Suspect in shooting turned in by mother

ASHLEY SLOBODA | The Journal Gazette

When Travon Rynell Fincher's mother learned he was wanted by authorities in connection with last week's fatal shooting, she took him to the police station, police said Tuesday night.

The pair reportedly arrived at the Fort Wayne station about 6 p.m., just hours after police publicly identified the 21-year-old as a person of interest in the Madison Street shooting that killed one and injured two.

Fincher, from Fort Wayne, declined to be interviewed and was taken to Allen County Jail on two counts of aggravated battery and one count of murder, police said.

The shooting happened about 9:15 p.m. Thursday.

Ricky Joe Pelmear, 40, was fatally shot. The Allen County coroner's office ruled Friday his death was the 33rd homicide in the county this year.

Jason Sandy, 41, and Rachel Burtz, 33, were hospitalized in critical and serious condition, respectively. Police did not have updates on their conditions Tuesday.
