Woman charged with arson in boutique blaze

MATTHEW LEBLANC | The Journal Gazette

A Fort Wayne woman who set a fire on a college campus in 2017 is charged with setting another one in November at a store where she worked.

Brittney Ellert, 32, set fire to a trash can inside a parking garage at IPFW, now Purdue University Fort Wayne, on Aug. 26, 2017. She pleaded guilty last year to institutional criminal mischief and criminal recklessness and was sentenced to probation.

A judge also ordered her to pay nearly $18,000 to the college, court records show.

Ellert allegedly set fire Nov. 29 to "plastics and other common combustibles" on the floor of a common storage area at Touma's Bridal Boutique on Coldwater Road, causing more than $11,000 in damage, according to court documents.

She was charged with arson Monday in Allen Superior Court and faces up to 12 years in prison if she is convicted.
