Murder charge filed in Lake Avenue shooting

JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

An arrest warrant has been issued for James L. Dodson Jr., charged with murder in the death of Michael LoVett Jr. who died in a hail of bullets as he stepped out of The Legendary Barbershop on Lake Avenue.

The warrant issued Monday said Dodson, 34, of the 2900 block of Smith Street, had been in the shop on April 9 for a haircut and got into an argument that was so intense Dodson left before it was finished. He came back and shot LoVett, court documents said.

Police got a call at 6:21 p.m. about a shooting in the 1700 block of Lake Avenue and found LoVett on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
