Man gets shot trying to stop car break-in

JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

Fort Wayne police are investigating a shooting on the city's south side.

A 47-year-old man told police he was shot after he went outside his home to confront two men breaking into his girlfriend's car about 6:30 a.m. Saturday. The two men, who took items from the vehicle, fled after the shooting, the victim said.

The Journal Gazette obtained information Thursday about the shooting.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Woman found after 24 hours

A Silver Alert issued Wednesday night for a missing 61-year Fort Wayne woman was canceled after the woman was found just before 8 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Medics examined the woman and she was returned to her family, city police said.

The woman had been missing from Northeast Drive since about 8 a.m. Wednesday.
