Driver says bullet hit his car during shooting

JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

A man told Fort Wayne police Wednesday night his car was struck by a bullet as he witnessed a shooting near the Renaissance Pointe YMCA on the city's south side.

The call came into police dispatch at 7:06 p.m. The caller told police he was driving down Creighton Avenue when he saw a couple of people shooting at another person. A bullet struck the caller’s car near Bowser Avenue, the man told police.

By the time police arrived, the shooters were gone, Fort Wayne police said.

"Sadly, that’s not unusual," said officer Chris Felton, city police public information officer. "At least once a shift we hear gunfire in the summer time, not so much in the wintertime."

Neither the man who called police nor anyone else was shot during the incident, police said.
