Boy on bike hit by car, badly injured
A 9-year-old boy was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after a vehicle struck him while he was riding his bicycle, police said.
Fort Wayne police officers arrived at Paulding Road and Fairfield Avenue at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday and found the boy unresponsive.
Witnesses told police the boy was riding north in the area when he rode into the path of a vehicle headed west on Paulding.
Tree-stand fall injures area man
A 34-year-old Fremont man was injured when he fell from a tree stand, Indiana conservation officers said Wednesday.
Matt Goins was hunting from a tree stand in a wooded area behind his home about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, wearing a full safety harness, conservation officers said. When he unhooked the tether from the tree to climb down, he stepped on the top set of climbing sticks and the strap became dislodged. Goins fell about 20 feet.
Goins called his wife, who called 911. He was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, conservation officers said.
Fremont police and firefighters and Steuben County EMS assisted at the scene.
SUV driver dead after hitting semi
A Bourbon man died after the SUV he was driving struck a semi in Kosciusko County.
Tony Cormeny, 60, was driving west on West Old Road 30 about 3 p.m. Tuesday when his SUV went left of center into the path of an eastbound semi driven by Mark Hott, 44, of Kewanna, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department said.
The SUV struck the semi head-on while Hott was trying to avoid the collision, police said.
Cormeny died at the scene. Hott had minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
