Adams County 11-year-old dead in accidental shooting
An 11-year-old boy died Wednesday after he was accidentally shot by a younger sibling, Adams County Sheriff Daniel Mawhorr said.
Dispatchers were called at 3:39 p.m., and officers arrived at 2749 E. County Road 800 South on a report that Sam S.M. Girod was dead after being accidentally shot in the torso area, the sheriff said.
The Adams County prosecutor's office will consider charges when an investigation is completed, he said.
Investigating agencies included the Berne Police Department, Geneva town marshal's office, Adams County EMS and the Indiana Department of Child Services.
“This is another example of why all firearms must be locked up or secured when small children live in the home,” the sheriff said.
