2-month-old killed in Bluffton crash

JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

A 2-month-old baby is dead after a two-vehicle head-on crash Friday morning in Bluffton.

According to witnesses, around 8:45 a.m., Russel Legreid II, 61, of Roanoke, drove his 2019 Toyota Tundra pickup truck south on Main Street, also known as Indiana 1, and crossed the center portion of the road, Bluffton police said.

His truck veered into the path of a northbound 2003 Chevrolet Venture minivan. The crash occurred in the 1700 block of North Main Street.

The van's driver, Eliseo Martinez Jr., 25, of Bluffton, was taken to a hospital, as were his three young passengers, ages 6 years, 5 years and 2 months. The infant was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Police did not include the condition of Martinez and the two other children, or the condition of Legreid, who was also taken to a hospital.

Law enforcement assistance came from the Wells County EMS, Adams County EMS, Parkview Huntington EMS and Southwest Allen County EMS along with the Wells County sheriff's office and the Indiana State Police.
