Boy struck in home by shot 'doing well'
ASHLEY SLOBODA | The Journal Gazette
The boy who suffered life-threatening injuries from a weekend shooting is recovering, the Fort Wayne Police Department said Monday.
“We are extremely happy that the child is doing well,” spokeswoman Sgt. Sofia Rosales-Scatena said in a statement.
The 8-year-old was badly injured about 2 a.m. Sunday after a gun was fired from outside a home in the 3200 block of Logan Avenue in southeast Fort Wayne. The boy was inside the home and was struck around his shoulder and chest, police have said.
A hospital physician initially described the boy's wounds as life-threatening.
The boy's improvement to stable condition doesn't lessen the seriousness of the shooting, Rosales-Scatena said.
“This type of incident should never be a community standard which we accept as commonplace,” she said.
Police are investigating the shooting and would appreciate help from the community, Rosales-Scatena added. Those with information may call police at 260-427-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.
