JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

A 35-year-old Defiance, Ohio, man was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital on a life-flight after his single-engine plane crashed Friday in a plowed field in rural Oakwood, Ohio.

Dustin A. Dobbelaere was the only passenger as he piloted a 1980 Piel Emeraude Model CP-301 plane around 3:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Paulding County (Ohio) Sheriff’s Office.

Dobbelaere had just taken off from a privately owned grass runway several hundred feet west of the crash site. The field, on the east side of Road 163 north of Road 138, is in Brown Township, the release said.

His medical condition was unknown at the time of Friday evening’s release.

Deputies were working with investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board, Oakwood Fire & EMS, Paulding EMS and the Paulding County Emergency Management Agency.
