Pilot hurt in Paulding plane crash

JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

A 35-year-old Defiance, Ohio, man was flown by helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital after his single-engine plane crashed Friday in a plowed field in rural Oakwood, Ohio.

Dustin A. Dobbelaere was the only one aboard as he piloted a 1980 Piel Emeraude Model CP-301 plane about 3:30 p.m., according to a news release Friday from the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

Dobbelaere had just taken off from a privately owned grass runway several hundred feet west of the crash site. The field, on the east side of Road 163 north of Road 138, is in Brown Township, the release said.

His medical condition was unknown at the time of Friday evening's release.

The sheriff's office was working with investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board, Oakwood Fire & EMS, Paulding EMS and the Paulding County Emergency Management Agency.
