The Journal Gazette
A man was killed Friday when his car left the road, struck a utility box and went airborne, landing in a ditch, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.
An officer on patrol about 9:30 p.m. heard a loud noise come from a car in the area of Auburn Park Drive and Kelley's Landing, where the officer saw the car leave the road. After the crash, the officer approached the car and found the driver unconscious and unresponsive, the police said.
The officer requested assistance and rendered medical aid to the driver. When medics arrived the driver was declared dead at the scene. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash and the driver was the only occupant, according to police.
Preliminary reports suggest the driver, whose name has not been released, possibly suffered from a medical condition prior to the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
