Firefighters rescue man from house fire

The Fort Wayne Fire Department escorted a man from a house fire late Monday night.

According to a news release, the department was called to the 1620 Colerick Street at 10:49 p.m. for a fire in a kitchen with a person trapped inside the home. At the scene, firefighters located the man in a bathroom and escorted him to safety and began EMS care. The man was taken to a hospital in serious condition, the department said.

The fire at the single-story home was under control by 10:57 p.m., causing moderate fire, smoke and water damage, and remains under investigation.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by the Fort Wayne Police Department, AEP and NIPSCO.
