Traffic was diverted from the scene of a fire involving a semi-tanker on the southeast side of Fort Wayne this morning.
The brakes on the semi-tanker locked up causing the tires to catch fire about 8:30 a.m. on Interstate 469 near the 13-mile marker, the Indiana State Police said.
The tanker was carrying 8,400 gallons of gasoline.
The driver was able to escape the tanker and call 911.
Fire departments from Fort Wayne, Poe and New Haven responded to the scene and worked to keep the tanker cool, spraying 2,000 gallons of water on it.
Southbound lanes were reopened around 9 a.m., and the left lane of northbound traffic is open but moving very slowly, police said.
Drivers are being asked to use caution while driving in the area.
