Families that plan to send children to Fort Wayne Community Schools in August as preschoolers and kindergartners can make those intentions official beginning today.
Online registration for pre-K and kindergarten students is open through March 31 via the myFWCS Parent Portal at www.fortwayneschools.org/myFWCS, the district announced Tuesday.
Incoming kindergartners must be 5 as of Aug. 1, and incoming pre-K students must be 4 by that date. Families must provide their child's birth certificate and two proofs of address.
Pre-K programs will be offered at Abbett, Adams, Bloomingdale, Brentwood (Haley), Fairfield, Forest Park (Glenwood Park), Franke Park, Harrison Hill, Holland (Shambaugh, Washington Center), Indian Village, Lindley, Maplewood, Northcrest (Lincoln), Scott, South Wayne, Study, Washington (Price) and Waynedale elementary schools, according to a news release. It indicated the schools in parentheses represent additional attendance areas served by a school's pre-K program. For instance, the release said, Brentwood serves students in the Brentwood and Haley attendance areas.
FWCS is adding the Glenwood Park, Holland, Lincoln, Shambaugh and Washington Center attendance areas to those eligible for Title I pre-K, the release said.
Residential requirements apply for pre-K spots funded through federal Title I dollars.
Parents unsure which school their child will attend can call the Family and Community Engagement Center at 467-2120, the release said.
Full-day kindergarten is available to all students, but the pre-K program has limited space. FWCS will use selection guidelines from the U.S. Department of Education to admit pre-K students if applicants outnumber available seats, the release said.
