Start of a criminal career?

About 10 years ago, my wife was working with a refugee. He ended up living on the IPFW campus, using a borrowed bike. The bike was stolen.

My wife tried to get the campus police to view the video that may have caught the thief in action. But their response was that it was not an important enough crime to spend time viewing the tape. So nothing was done, and the refugee ended up paying for the borrowed bike.

Then, years later, the police did catch a bicycle thief who was stealing from the Purdue Fort Wayne campus. Was it the same man?

One way to cut crime is catch thieves early in their criminal lives.

Founders made intent for a republic clear

Many politicians are now talking about upholding or improving our democracy. But the truth is, as we all know when we recite the Pledge of Allegiance, we are a republic, not a democracy.

As our founding fathers said when our government was being established:

“Democracies have been spectacles of turbulence and contention, have ever been found incompatible with personal security and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.” – James Madison

“Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.” – John Marshall

“An elective despotism was not the government we fought for....” – Thomas Jefferson

Weather radar channel was invaluable asset

I am writing to express concern about the removal of the Doppler weather radar channel.

I volunteer at the local VA hospital and frequently hear the patients and employees discuss how they rely on the radar. Many have to travel two to three hours to make their appointments. This is particularly difficult in the winter with ice and snow. Many employees travel from places such as Marion and Indianapolis daily. Employees such as the Disabled American Veterans shuttle drivers travel to other hospitals with patients, and they rely on visual weather reporting.

This does not include local families and businesses that just want to plan their day.

With this in mind, perhaps a local public service channel would be possible. Let's give the people of the area a great tool to plan their activities and travel safely.

Democrats' overreach ensures Trump reelection

I want to thank the several Democratic voters who have sent in their letters regarding the Mueller Report. For them to ignore this president's accomplishments of low unemployment numbers and an economy firing on all cylinders is awesome. I hope they continue their rhetoric, and I invite them to use the word “impeachment” so independents and moderate Democrats support Donald J. Trump for reelection in 2020. A House of Representatives that does nothing viable to pass laws and uses impeachment as a political tool will all but guarantee a Republican majority again as well.
