Purdue lands state's top basketball recruit

Power forward Trey Kaufman of Silver Creek, the No. 1 basketball recruit in Indiana in the 2021 class according to 24/, committed to play at Purdue.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Kaufman is the No. 31 player nationally and chose the Boilermakers over Indiana, North Carolina, Virginia and Indiana State. With his commitment, Purdue's 2021 class now contains the top two players from Indiana as Kaufman joins Fort Wayne native and Blackhawk Christian center Caleb Furst.

As a junior, Kaufman averaged 25.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.6 blocks.

Big Ten/ACC set

The Big Ten/ACC Challenge announced its men's basketball schedule for 2020. No. 24 Indiana will travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida State on Dec. 9. Purdue will also play in Florida, traveling to Miami to take on the Hurricanes on Dec. 8. Also on Dec. 8, Notre Dame will host No. 17 Ohio State.

Nash adds to coaching staff

Mike D'Antoni and Amare Stoudemire are joining Steve Nash's coaching staff, bringing a glimpse of the old Phoenix Suns to Brooklyn.

Former Komet official positive

Chuck Bailey, the Komets' longtime director of communications, has been hospitalized with COVID-19, though he's expected out in a few days. Bailey retired this summer after 27 seasons with the team.


Semistate change

The semistate matches scheduled to be played at Huntington North today have been moved to Logansport. Bishop Dwenger (31-2) will play New Prairie (25-7) in the Class 3A semistate championship at 6 p.m. That follows the Class 2A match between Wapahani and Fairfield, which starts at 4 p.m.
