Saints boys crowned SAC golf champions

Bishop Dwenger won the SAC boys golf championship at Brookwood Golf Course, sweeping the top four positions to win with a team score of 292. Northrop was second with a score of 360, and Concordia third with 362. 

Bishop Dwenger's Charlie Olson was the individual medalist with a 1-under-par 71 that included a hole-in-one on the sixth hole.

At Cobblestone Golf Course, Columbia City and Leo boys golf each posted team scores of 300 at the NE8 Championship, although the Eagles claimed the conference championship based on their fifth-place finisher. Norwell finished third at 308 and Bellmont was fourth at 311.

Norwell's Augie Mann won the individual medalist honors in a playoff after he and Leo's Justin Hicks each shot a 2-under-par 70.


NBA eases masks for head coaches

The NBA told its head coaches they may work without masks if they have been fully vaccinated. Assistant coaches and players are still required to wear them in the bench area.


Dwenger grad leads local event

Logan Ryan shot a 4-under par 68 to take a one-shot lead over Tim Dobis after one round of the Ruoff Mortgage Hall of Fame Championship at Coyote Creek Golf Club. Seven players were two shots back and another pair were three shots back of the Ryan, a Bishop Dwenger graduate.

LPGA results

In Williamsburg, Virginia, Wei-Ling Hsu birdied the final hole for a 6-under 65 and a share of the third-round lead with Moriya Jutanugarn in the LPGA Tour's Pure Silk Championship.

Sectional change

The Lakewood Park Christian softball sectional, which originally included six teams, has been redrawn and no longer includes Hamilton. The host Panthers will now face Bethany Christian on Monday, and the winner will face Fremont. Canterbury will now play Elkhart Christian.

Golf results

Heritage won the boys ACAC golf championships with a team score of 365 at the Celina Lynx Golf Course in Celina, Ohio, beating Jay County by two strokes and Bluffton by three. Keegan Schwartz of Bluffton won individual medalist honors with a 2-over par 74. ...

Warsaw won the NLC golf title at Bent Oak Golf Club in Elkhart with a score of 325 after Northridge, which appeared to have a team score of 324, had a player disqualified for a scorecard error. ...

Lakeland won the NECC boys golf title at Lake James Golf Course in Angola, beating runner-up Angola by 33 strokes. Fremont was fifth with a score of 392, West Noble seventh at 402 and Garrett eighth at 403. Tommy Curtis of Lakeland was the medalist with a score of 80.


Gauff wins title

Coco Gauff stormed to her second career singles title as she bested Wang Qiang 6-1, 6-3 at the Emilia-Romagna Open.
