SCAN was given $10,000 from the Eric and Kate Wedge Foundation and proceeds from the "Party in the Park" that was held at Parkview Field in February, the organization announced Thursday. Each year, Eric Wedge, an ESPN baseball analyst and former MLB manager, has attended the event and donated portions of the proceeds to various area non-profit organizations.
"SCAN does vital work here in Fort Wayne, my hometown," he said in a release. "My Wife Kate and I, on behalf of our foundation, are proud to present this donation to assist in their important mission."
The funds were generated from about 300 attendees who participated in silent and live auctions and provided by local sponsors.
SCAN is an organization that is dedicated to protecting children, preparing parents and strengthening families.
"SCAN truly appreciates the ongoing partnership of people like Eric Wedge, who remain involved with their community, and the Fort Wayne Sports Corporation, a local organization striving to improve our quality of life," SCAN's Rachel Tobin-Smith said. "Events like ‘Party in the Park’ provide a venue where citizens can enjoy their interests while giving back to their community."
The 2016 Party in the Park is scheduled for Feb. 12 at Parkview Field. For more and up-to-date information, visit www.fortwaynesportscorp.com.
