Outlook: No. 23 Purdue is coming off a 79-57 win over Green Bay in its season-opener, while Texas defeated Northern Colorado 69-45 in its first game. ... The Longhorns went 21-16 last season in coach Shaka Smart's fourth year but did not make the NCAA Tournament. Texas beat the Boilermakers in Austin last season, winning 72-68 despite 40 points from Purdue's Carsen Edwards. ... Purdue comes into the matchup on an 18-game home winning streak, the fifth-longest streak in the country. The Boilermakers have the best home record in the country over the last four years (64-4) and the last two years (32-1). They have also won 20 straight nonconference home games, the fourth-longest stretch in program history, with the last loss coming against then-defending national champion Villanova in November 2016. … Texas is led by former McDonald's All-American Andrew Jones, a 6-foot-4 guard who scored 20 points in the team's opener. Jones averaged 11.5 points per game as a freshman in 2016-17, but was diagnosed with leukemia in January 2018 and missed the rest of that season and nearly all of 2018-19 while undergoing treatment, which was ultimately successful. … Purdue guard Jahaad Proctor scored 26 points in his first game with the Boilermakers after transferring from High Point, the most points in a Purdue debut since Glenn Robinson's 30 in 1992. … The Boilermakers are set to be closer to full strength than in their opener. Guard Sasha Stefanovic, who missed the Green Bay game with a foot injury sustained in practice Monday, worked out with the team Friday and is likely to play against the Longhorns. Fellow guard Nojel Eastern mildly sprained his wrist against Green Bay but should be ready to go today. ... The Boilers play again Wednesday, when they travel to Marquette for their first road game of the season.
