Bruins get overtime win

Eli Fincher's 6-yard touchdown led Northrop to a 40-33 overtime victory over Concordia.

On their home field, the Bruins (3-2) got nine receptions for 110 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown catch, from Qualen Pettus. Quarterback Dylan Hoot completed 14 of 22 passes for 158 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Dontrell Johnson.

The Cadets also had a pick-six, from Antoine Scott.

Brandon Davis completed 13 of 27 passes for 206 yards with three touchdowns and one interception for Concordia (2-3). Amir Drew rushed 21 times for 102 yards and the touchdown that tied it at 33, though the extra-attempt failed with 2:53 left in regulation time.

After Fincher's go-ahead touchdown in overtime, the Northrop defense kept Concordia from scoring, getting a combined sack from Taquay White and Dustin Busbey on second down, and another sack from Nigel Robertson on third down.

FREMONT 20, CENTRAL NOBLE 17: At Fremont, the Eagles (3-2) reached three victories in a season for the first time since 2012. It's their best five-game start since 1998, when they were 4-1. Central Noble (2-3), which scored 15 points through the first three weeks of the season, has 38 in the last two games.

EASTSIDE 28, GARRETT 8: At Butler, the Blazers (3-2) won the battle for the Train Trophy, paced by Laban Davis (9 of 15 for 220 yards and four touchdowns) and Dylan Bredemeyer (six catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns).

Seth Van Wagner rushed 15 times for 103 yards and the lone touchdown for Garrett (2-3). He also had five tackles.

DEKALB 20, COLUMBIA CITY 17: At Columbia City, the Barons (4-1) handed Columbia City, ranked 14th in the Class 4A coaches poll, its first loss of the season.

Landon Miller scored the winning touchdown on a 55-yard run in the third quarter.

The Barons' Tanner Jack had 14 carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns, plus 55 receiving yards.

The Eagles' Greg Bolt threw for 174 yards and a touchdown. Michael Sievers had seven catches for 83 yards.

ANGOLA 35, LAKELAND 12: At Angola, the Hornets (1-4) got a strong performance from Purdue recruit Ryan Brandt, who rushed six times for 59 yards and a touchdown, had two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown, and had an interception. Teammate Finley Hasselman rushed 10 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns, as the Hornets built a 35-0 lead.

Lakeland (1-4) got an 81-yard touchdown run from Khamron Malaivanh.

WOODLAN 46, SOUTHERN WELLS 0: At Poneto, the Warriors (2-3) got 124 rushing yards and a touchdown from Jacob Roemer. Keegan Jones had two rushing touchdowns. And Nathan Bradtmueller completed 14 of 20 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns.

Southern Wells (1-4) got 10 solo tackles from Xavier Walden and nine from Jed Perry.

CHURUBUSCO 44, PRAIRIE HEIGHTS 19: At LaGrange, Jake Fulk rushed 11 times for 150 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Eagles (4-1) past the Panthers (1-4).

ADAMS CENTRAL 35, HERITAGE 6: At Monroe, the Flying Jets (5-0) got 169 passing yards and a touchdown from Dallas Schwaller. Ben Voirol had a 53-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for Adams Central, ranked second in the Class A media poll and third in the coaches poll.

Heritage (0-5) got 116 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries from Gage Pritchard.

NORTH SIDE 19, BISHOP LUERS 14: At North Side, the Legends took a 19-0 lead on back-to-back Alex Holliday-Robinson touchdown runs – from 11 and 9 yards out – and the Knights' rally fell short. Holliday-Robinson rushed 20 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns for the Legends (2-3).

Luers (1-4) got a 5-yard Cecil Hale touchdown run and a 46-yard touchdown pass from Christian Fly to Brody Glenn with 3:39 remaining in the third quarter.
