Adams County rivals to face off in regional

Separated by just over eight miles, South Adams and Adams Central will battle Friday for a berth in the Class A semistate.

The No. 2 Starfires claimed the Sectional 43 championship with a 47-20 victory in Berne over Madison-Grant, while the fourth-ranked Flying Jets held off Northfield 38-28 to claim the title in Sectional 44.

At Berne, South Adams (12-0) quarterback James Arnold threw seven first-half touchdowns to put the hosts up 47-6 at halftime. Trey Schoch and Aiden Wanner each caught three scoring strikes, and Nick Miller added the other receiving TD.

At Wabash, Adams Central (11-1) led 24-14 at the half then held off the Norsemen's late charge. Northfield intercepted two third-quarter Flying Jets passes, only to see both negated by roughing-the-passer penalties.

Leading by a field goal late, Adams Central added a 14-yard touchdown in the final minute to secure the victory.

The Adams County rivals will battle for a regional title Friday in Monroe.

CONCORDIA 56, PERU 6: At Peru, in the Class 3A Sectional 27 championship game, Amir Drew ran for four first-half touchdowns to lead the Cadets (7-5) to regionals for the second time in four years.

Concordia will play host to Indianapolis Bishop Chatard (11-1) on Friday.

BISHOP DWENGER 42, NORTHROP 0: At Shields Field, in the Class 5A Sectional 11 title game, the Saints (10-1) led just 15-0 at intermission before pulling away.

Brenden Lytle finished 14-of-16 passing, including three touchdowns, all to Griffin Eifert.

Dwenger will travel to Lafayette Harrison (9-2) for regionals Friday.

WARSAW 35, PENN 18: At Warsaw, in the Class 6A Sectional 2 finale, the Tigers (9-2) saw three rushers amass over 100 yards to claim its first football sectional championship.

In all, Warsaw ran 56 plays, all rushes, for 417 yards.

EASTSIDE 34, FAIRFIELD 0: At Butler, in the championship of Class 2A Sectional 35, Laban Davis ran for a touchdown and threw two more to lead the Blazers (10-2) to their first-ever sectional title.

Lane Burns also returned an interception for a score for Eastside, which travels to Eastbrook (10-2) in regional action Friday.
