A 9-0 first-half run presented Homestead with just enough to win at South Side on Friday, 56-49, leaving the Spartans as the SAC's last remaining unbeaten team in league play.
Olivia Smith led three double-figure Archers scorers with 18 points and added six assists, while Jaci Jones and Alaya Chapman both added 11. Chapman also grabbed nine rebounds for South Side (10-6, 4-1 SAC). Homestead improved to 14-1 overall, 6-0 in the SAC.
BISHOP LUERS 44, CONCORDIA 28: At Luers, Dori Javins finished with 10 points and nine rebounds as the Knights (10-5, 4-1) moved into a tie for second in the SAC. Kennedy Glenn added 10 for Luers, while the Cadets (8-7, 2-3) got seven points apiece from Cerenity Adams and Rhaya Kaschinske.
BELLMONT 40, COLUMBIA CITY 31: At Decatur, the Braves (11-4, 3-1) surrendered just 19 points through three quarters in handing the Eagles (10-7, 3-1) their first NE8 defeat. Coupled with victories by Norwell (75-29 over Leo) and Huntington North (41-38 over East Noble), the NE8 features a four-way tie atop the league standings with three games remaining.
Kenzie McMahon scored all 10 of her points after halftime for the Squaws, while Emma Keane added 10 as well. Hayley Urban paced Columbia City with six.
NEW HAVEN 53, DEKALB 42: At New Haven, the Bulldogs (3-13, 1-3 NE8) netted their first conference win since a 44-34 win against Bellmont on Dec. 20, 2014.
FREMONT 69, CHURUBUSCO 54: At Fremont, Grace Schmucker's 20 points led three in double digits for Fremont (8-7, 3-4 NECC), while Mariah Hosted scored 25 points and grabbed 16 boards for Churubusco (4-11, 1-6).
HOMESTEAD 61, SOUTH SIDE 35: At South Side, all three captains for the Spartans (7-3, 3-0 SAC) scored in double figures, with Zak Krueger (13) leading the way. Alec Grinsfelder added 11 and Luke Goode 10 for Homestead, while Kamron Mitchell's 15 was best for the Archers (3-6, 2-1).
CANTERBURY 52, ELKHART CHRISTIAN 48, OT: At Canterbury, freshman Will Russell drained a huge three-pointer in overtime for the Cavaliers (5-6). Will Shank led all scorers with 21 for Canterbury.
EAST NOBLE 51, HUNTINGTON NORTH 32: At Huntington, Hayden Jones' 15 points helped the Knights (4-4, 1-1 NE8) improve to .500 overall and in the NE8. The Vikings fell to 4-8 overall, 0-2 in league play.
ANGOLA 33, PRAIRIE HEIGHTS 28: At Brushy Prairie, the Hornets (5-3, 3-2 NECC) handed the Class 2A No. 3 Panthers (10-1, 5-1) their first loss despite not scoring in the second quarter.
NORTHWOOD 54, WAWASEE 38: At Syracuse, the Panthers shot 57 percent from the field to take the Northern Lakes Conference matchup. Ethan Hardy finished as the lone double-digit scorer for Wawasee (7-4, 0-2 NLC) with 14.
