Railroaders' girls come back to top Chargers

Facing a nine-point first half deficit in the opening round of the NECC Girls BasketballTournament, Garrett rattled off 14 straight en route to a 45-37 victory over West Noble on Tuesday at Garrett.

The Railroaders held the Chargers to just two third-quarter points. Bailey Kelham scored 20 to lead the way for Garrett (13-4). Lilly Mast netted 23 in a losing cause for West Noble (6-11).

CENTRAL NOBLE 41, EASTSIDE 38: At Butler, the freshman tandem of Madi Vice and Meghan Kiebel led the way for the Cougars (10-6) with 11 and nine points to lead the defending tourney champions to the second round of the NECC tourney. Central Noble plays Garrett today in a rematch of Friday's 42-38 victory by the Railroaders.

BLUFFTON 45, SOUTH ADAMS 31: At Bluffton, Emme Boots' 18 points propelled the Tigers to the Allen County Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. Zoe Barger added 12 for Bluffton (5-12), while Lydia Loshe paced South Adams (7-8) with 12.

WOODLAN 36, JAY COUNTY 25: At Woodburn, the Warriors upended the defending ACAC Tournament champions, earning a date against Bluffton on Friday.

HOMESTEAD 77, NORTHFIELD 41: Ayanna Patterson led four Spartans in double figures with 21 points. Rylie Parker and Sydney Graber added 19 and 15 points as Homestead (16-1) won its eighth straight.


CENTRAL NOBLE 57, EASTSIDE 47: At Butler, Connor Essegian scored 22 points to lead the Cougars (9-2) past the Blazers (4-7), who were led by Gabe Trevino's 17.

WEST NOBLE 62, GARRETT 29: At Garrett, the Chargers took control thanks to a 38-13 scoring edge over the middle two quarters. Today, West Noble (4-6) will play host to Central Noble following the Chargers' girls game against the Cougars.

Garrett fell to 2-11.

WOODLAN 59, JAY COUNTY 38: At Woodburn, the Warriors (5-5) limited the Patriots to 13 points combined in the second and third quarters.

SOUTH ADAMS 46, BLUFFTON 44: At Bluffton, the visitors trailed by six after three quarters before rallying for the ACAC Tournament victory. James Arnold's 15 were tops for the Starfires (5-3), while Tanner Cooley scored a game-high 19 for the Tigers (7-4).

On Friday, South Adams will play host to Woodlan after the Bluffton girls face the Warriors in their semifinal.

Girls' honors

Angola junior Hanna Knoll was named the IBCA/Subway Player of the Week for District 1 for her play last week. Knoll averaged 20.3 points and 5.7 steals as the Hornets picked up road wins over East Noble and Northeast Corner Conference foes Prairie Heights and Fremont. ... Three weeks after earning Player of the Week honors, Northrop's TiAuna White was nominated for it again. Central Noble's Connor Essegian, Churubusco's Landen Jordan and Whitko's Brett Sickafoose were nominated for the boys award.
